does a USB hub degrade transfer capacity of "hubbed" devices

I bought a cheap non powered 4 port USB hub attaching my iphone, keyboard and mouse. I'm wondering if my iphone transfer speed should be degraded at all using this method.

My tower front bezel USB is designed for usb 1.1 and can't easily reach the back of the device. So I tend to attach USB drives etc to the hub.

No more than plugging them all in to different ports would if I remember right. All the ports share the same bus anyway.
