How much smokeing costs the NSH compared to Drinking??

Ohh and dont forget to add up, on the drinking side. Policing. and the damage caused. oh and street cleaning.

The most recent numbers I could find was:

Money obtained from tobacco tax : £10.9 billion (2009/10) £12.1billion (2011-12)
Cost to NHS: £5billion (2009-10)
Cost to employers: £2billion (2009-10)

So, smokers more than pay their way on the NHS.

Smoking gives a net surplus of money via the taxes on tobacco products. Drink, probably the same :/

Haters gonna hate

I really don't understand what possesses people to register with a forum sometimes. So far all he's done is **** off GTA4, and now post this. Bizarre.

Shud'nt we give Drinkers the same Crap They give us smokers??

Im pritty sure drinking costs More than smoking. and destorys peoples life's More ways than smoking ever could

The tax on tobacco generates more money than the cost to the NHS. I don't know what it is once you factor in smaller pension payouts due to early deaths but also increased welfare costs due to people with dependents dying early.

Alcohol is harder to work out. You can isolate out various liver conditions as being caused by alcohol but a lot of peoples weight problems are compounded due to high calorie alcoholic drinks. There's also the difficult to measure damage of families broken apart by alcoholism and crime caused by it.

I'd make an educated guess that alcohol is a net loss to country financially.

I think drinking cost's Way more than smokers do.

Drinker's cost loads to the police

Should'nt we leave the smokers alone for abit, and ban drinkings adverts and bring out some Silly ainit drinking adverts?
