Does anyone get gaming pings in vista on wireless?

i 'could' get my mate to drill a hole in my wall (rented room) and feed a cat5e cable through to my gigabit switch

but failing that, does anyone get constant pings using wireless (pci) in vista?

router is wrt54g on tomato firmware

i've sworn to only use cabled in the past, got this router so my gf could use her laptop anywhere in the flat

opinions?
 
ive all but given up on wireless in general. ive gone through 3 different routers and i cant same ive been entirely happy with any of them. from general unexplained drops in speeds to increased pings.....my problems all ended when i went cabled again.
