How do you guys deal with so many msn requests and spam? I've had [email protected] for years and I don't want to make the transition due to the amount of spam and msn requests I get on it.

Is there any way to reduce the incoming crap?

Also has anyone noticed an influx of msn requests from bots over the recent few months?

MSN has a spam filter you will have to fiddle with that and yes ive noticed an increase in bots on msn. Ive also noticed an increase of people with ad aware on there computers sending me adverts. Rumours have it Windows Live is being replaced with something else soon.

ive noticed this as well, i seem to be getting a lot of spam friend requests recently getting kind of annoying.

90% of hotmail / live based spam is from people stupid enough to put their details in an unofficial website like "find out whos blocked you, enter details here". But if its from nonspecifics then theres not a lot you can do cept block em every time ofc.
I use [email protected] and dont get too much that isnt filtered out. Just a lot of random 'friends' wanting me to add them.

Yer i have a firstname @hotmail.co.uk , managed to sign up just when .co.uk was being offered, sure its a unique email BUT i get non stop add requests from the bots on msn, which i usually block or once every so often invite them together to have some chat *** , its just one of those things u have to put up with,

on the spam side of things, i generally just delete everything in my inbox as i know its of no importance as i use a googlemail for anything money or social related

Yes, I keep submitting them as spammers. Hopefully the mail team will get the picture. I've used hotmail for years and years and only in the past few weeks have I been getting dodgy add requests. Glad it's not just me as it's been raised in other threads too.

Jesus im glad you posted this - im getting at least 1 friend request a day usually 2 for the past 2 weeks or so. Ive had the address for 10 years - only recently has it gone liek this

reporting everyone.

You've done something wrong then. I've been using windows/msn/live messenger for about 8 years and never had a single "bot" add me.

Ive only had 3 bots in the last 6 months. On the other hand the ammount of viagra adverts and rolex adverts in my spam box could make me pimp diddy of the porno world.

Just ditch hotmail and get a gmail account, gmail is about 10x better than hotmail, the spam filter alone makes it worth it.

Microsoft really need to get their act together and cut out all the crappy adverts on their pages. Americans don't seem to care about adverts, maybe they're thick or something.

...or maybe they just understand you don't get something for nothing and unless you're paying for the service ad funding is an acceptable alternative?

Anyway, with the mighty Admuncher running I don't see any ads in gmail or hotmail. \o/

dont know what you are all moaning about

i keep getting women who want to talk to me on msn.

these women are great , they are about to have a live sex show with their best friend and they want me to come and watch... how lucky am i

i use my personal domain for msn messenger and never get any bots, i do have an old hotmail account though and on the rare occasion i log into that one there's always loads of requests to add people

Buy your own domain name, host it, run webmail.

You can do all this for £20 a year. then have [email protected]ever

This is what I do. I have upto 1000 email addys at my domain available so have no issues with spam etc.
