Does anyone have a MIDI keyboard that could explain setting it up with a PC via USB?

Hi everyone,

I have recently purchased Reason 3 software to use with my rather old midi capable keyboard.

I have a Yamaha XG PSR 530 and it's about 10 years old I think.

Now my problem is, I've hooked it up via midi in and out at the back of the keyboard to a midi box converter thing that then turns into a usb for connection to the PC, and I don't think its working.

Firstly I don't know if i need to press something on the keyboard to go into midi mode and don't have the manual and can't see any obvious 'midi on' button.

Secondly, the PC detects the usb thing I have connected as an audio device etc, but I don't know how to test if midi is working. I just tried to auto detect the keyboard in Reason 3, and it didn't find it or did and stated it was just a default midi keyboard. I tried recording and nothing happens, so I guess midi is not working at the moment.

Any ideas anyone? It would be much appreciated.
