in xp, my xfi is awesome, never had a problem (besides a few small driver related ones) and the sound NEVER blips or skips, and always plays fine when the pc is under a medium->heavy load

in vista 32&64 (all patches installed and latest drivers) i get problems with it, basically i get a few pops now and again, especially in a scene in a hd movie where there's a lot happening

system is 4gb ram, opteron 175, nvidia raid0 750gb, ati hd2600pro

any suggestions for a soundcard that works flawlessly in vista?

i just want a card that plays audio perfectly with no blips in vista, and that still works under cpu load!

If I have a probelm I usually go into the Creative Audio Console and reset all to default, usually fixes things. Turning off Crystaliser and the 3D thing could help.

Also, long shot here, if you have Everest Ultimate Edition running try turning it off. I was looking for ages into a popping problem with my sound, turned Everest off by mistake once and the popping stopped.

never had any problems with my X-Fi Fatal1ty FPS Edition from Feb '06. I used 32bit from release and have been on 64bit since November.

I don't use any of the Crystaliser stuff and don't have the Launcher software thing anymore, just the drivers. But they all worked fine on 32bit.

It's fine watching HD stuff too.

Been fine on: 32bit -
X2 3800+
X1800XT 512
2GB Ram
A8N-E

and 64-bit -
Q6600
8800GT 512
4GB Ram
P5K Premium/Wifi

vista 64 bit, 2 gig ram, A8N sli (P) , fatality, running fine, has done since vista came out, apart from the few missing bits over xp

ffs

ok thanks lads, i'll try moving the pci port it's in, maybe it doesn't like it for whatever reason

think i managed to resolve it, i went into control panel, sound, speakers, properties, soundblaster disable enhancements ticked that and i don't get choppy sound anymore :)
