Does anyone here play 4K content through OpenElec?

I've got an Intel NUC running OpenElec and I can't seem to change the resolution output to more than 1080p despite having a 4K TV!?!?!

The NUC is an i3-3217U and I have no idea if it's a software issue or whether the NUC is simply incapable of outputting 4K video, whether because of graphic capability issues or possibly the HDMI port not being "up to spec"???

Can anyone point me in the right direction??

It should do 4K type resolutions over the DP port (if your model has one) - the HDMI might do 4K at 30Hz but its not 2.0 so will have lesser compatibility with high resolutions/refresh rates.

I don't think it has a display port (assuming that's what you mean?) and I can't seem to find out what HDMI version the ports are! (Is there any way to check?)

Also, I've got a lot of HDMI cables that I've collected over the years - is there any way to check whether these are 4K capable?

Depending on the content you want to watch, you may find that even if you can output 4K - you'll have difficulty playing 4K as you need some sort of h265/HEVC decoding capability - which wasn't added until the Skylake CPU's I think.

From a quick look seems that the HDMI version is 1.4a and out the box it only supports upto 2560x1440 max resolution - with some messing about with custom resolutions and timings its potentially possible to get 4K/30Hz output (might need to use Windows though to get it to work - seems mixed reports about custom resolutions and the Intel HD 4000 series in Linux).
