Does anyone hide their wireless network?

By hide, I mean tell it to stop broadcasting the network SSID?

I thought it would be an additional security measure but I'm not sure if it creates more problems than it's worth? I've manually connected the iPad and laptop but Windows said something about the PC could be at risk if I attempted connection to the network when it's not broadcasting the SSID.

I don't bother. I have 2x SSIDs, one is for me/wife, the other for guests. The guest one can't see anything on my network.

There is very little to be gained by hiding it. As long as there is a password, you are stopping all casual entry, while a genuine hacker intent on gaining access to your wifi will not be deterred (it is trivial to find a non-broadcasting SSID).

I used too, for a number of years actually but have recently turned it off as quite a few new devices can't connect to hidden ones.

Wii U, Ivee, Dlink AP Extender all couldn't connect to it so I decided WPA2 would be fine.

As has been said above it's a totally pointless step the sort of person who is determined enough to break into a properly secured and passworded network will not be detered by a hidden SSID so all you a re doing is making your own life harder!
