This may seem like an odd question but when I was out there the people did seem to have a lot of money. EVERYBODY drove around in brand new landcruisers and seemed very wealthy, and others have told me they are.

The GDP in 2005 was $42 Billion with a population of 200,000, judging from that I would also think they are very wealthy, anyone got any more accurate figures?

and if you are wondering, Qatar is a small oil rich country next to Saudi Arabi.

Same in Dubai, our taxi driver had a BMW 7 series.

Next to everyone was driving Mercedes S-Class', BMW 7 series, Land cruisers or Porsche Cayennes.

Its mad how rich they all are :D

They have a estimated 2007 population of 841,000. Their 2005 GDP is indeed $42billion. Thats $49,655 each. Ranked 7th in the world. They also don't pay income tax :(

Google and/or Wiki is your friend :p

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qatar

but the majority of those 841,000 are very low paid migrant workers, I remember hearing that Qataris were on average the richest in the world, guess it was wrong.

On average they might be, but it depends on the distribution of the wealth, something about Lorenz curves and Gini co-efficients, they blab on about them at uni.
