Does anyone know the approximate power requirements of the x800/6600/6800 agp cards?

Asking as my brother is now using my old AMD XP 2800+ system with a 9600Pro. Im considering getting him a much faster x800/6600/6800 card for xmas, second hand, depending on what becomes available, however I remember the machine has a older PSU (350~W).It runs the 9600Pro fairly well, but I've no idea of the comparative power requirements.
Does anyone know the power requirements of the AGP X800, 6600 and 6800 cards, as I dont particularly want to have to buy him a new PSU as well!

Thanks,

Alex

PS. Incase it makes a difference on whether his PSU could survive it, hes running a couple of fans, the 9600Pro, AMDXP 2800+ (barton) 2x512MB RAM DIMMS and a 160GB HD.

my old pc was

amd2600 barton
2 dvd drvies
1 hdd
2x512ram
x800xl agp

now at idle it would use about 125watts according to my power monitering software in games at most it would double.

so a 350 would be fine for an x800 agp system based on what you got now.

also just built my niece a 3700amd system with an x800 and that is running on a 380watt.

I'd have to disagree.

I've got an unbranded 500w psu in a....

Athlon XP 2500+ mobile clocked at 2500mhz
6800GT
nForce2 mobo

That runs fine, before this I had a 350w unbranded psu, it was fine until I tried to overclock the cpu, it would go to about 2050mhz fine. I tried further....2100mhz....pop....

Having said that, the 350w psu was a stinker, but the 500w one was only 20quid about 3 years ago.

I'd chuck in a cheapo 500w one mate be on the safe side.

If it's a decent 350W it should take the 6600GT absolutely fine, 6800GT should be just about ok as well.

If it's a crappy £10 unbranded PSU then I'd replace the PSU at the same time.

I'd be more inclined to get a good 350-400W PSU.

The X800/X850 cards were able to work with 300W PSUs - to demonstrate, ATi outfitted a Shuttle with an X800XTPE (I believe) and it worked perfectly.

The Geforce 6800-class of cards were about 25% more power-hungry, with the green team recommending a minimum of 480W for the PSU. I am willing to take a punt, however, and suggest that - if your PSU's amperage rating is over 20A on the 12V rail, it will be fine.

Thanks a lot people, Im gonna take this all into consideration when I buy the card, as tbh, I dont want to buy him a new PSU, he doesnt take too good care of the machine, but he does use it a lot, so as I've had to replace bits before now, Im not really inclined to do the PSU too if I can get away with it :D
