It came from the vintage VW scene, it just spread to the watercooled VW scene and then outwards from there.

Accessories of all sorts are popular with vintage dubbers. Scuff guards, bras, eyebrows, sun visors, swamp coolers, bud vases, funny horn buttons, drive-in trays, etc.

The roof rack thing came from that as well.
 
The irony is, a bonnet bra is not only likely to damage the paint surface during fitting and removal, but as it traps dirt and water, what is to stop it grinding that into your paintwork and leaving waterspots, promoting rust etc?
 
I don't get these either, it reminds me of a friend who bought a mint 328i when they were still worth having, and spent his ownership life of the car with the dealers protective polythene seat covers kept on. For resale value :confused:
 
The amount of crap that hits your car over here is unreal. Theres more marks on the winscreen of my jeep in 6 months than the entire 5 years i owned my honda in the UK.
