that game from the early 90s where you ran a moon colony. I think the earth was either destroyed or you declared independance.. you had to build improvements and ships. After a while martian colonists started attacking you. When they attacked you had a really bad screen where you had to try and shoot them down and the amount of weapons you had was the amount of ships you'd built.

I used to love the game for some reason. Played it loads back before civilisation. I think that was on our 486 in dos. I asked my brother what the name was, he remembered the game but couldn't remember the name at all. It was really a fantastic game for the time and probably got me in to the whole strategy side of building things up before civilisation.

I believe you are both wrong , the game was either called Millenium 2.2 it was on the amiga , atari and the pc(dos)

Millenium 2.2
1989

after a nuclear war earth was made uninhabitable and mankind had to colonize other planets in the solar system. Now it is the 23rd century and you are the commander of of the moon base which houses the survivors. It's your job to make sure mankind survives but in doing so you discover that aliens are trying to stop you from doing this.

You start with a simple base, some equipment and very little else. It's your job to design and build new things to improve the station so that you can mount a defence against the invaders. The main screen shows the base and each of the different compartments respresents a different facility. Below the screen are shown the six different areas and the ones in red need immediate attention. First you have to make sure there is enough energy for your facilities which is easy enough as there is a mark 1 generator in you store but it will only deliver enough energy for a small amount of services. You can design and then build better generators when you need them as your facility is entirely selfsufficient. Ofcourse you need materials to produce equipment so you'll have to mine them as well.

While you are trying to improve your base don't forget that there is an alien race who are about to attack so it's important to build defensive and offensive weapons like battle craft and orbital lasers. You can only produce a single object at one time though so try and keep you facilities running constantly to maximize output. In the event that you have to wait before new things happen you can skip a day ahead. You'll use this at the start of the game often as you have only a single base but later on you will be able to build bases on other planets as well giving you a lot more responsability and work. This will give you new possibilities as well because some of the rarer minerals cannot be mined on the moon and have to be extracted from other planets. This will allow you to design and build equipment you would normally not be able to.

The game deutros was a sequal to millenium 2.2
1991

The game is set some 800 years after Millennium, in a time when mankind has won the struggle to make the Earth habitable again but lost its spacefaring capabilities, which it is seeking to regain. While the game shares themes of space exploration and resource gathering - plus some elements of its interface - with its predecessor, the two are highly different in gameplay. Deuteros has been noted for its uncanny sense of timing in introducing new technologies that ease and automate tasks as they become trite, a graphics style somewhat similar to the works of H. R. Giger and a high difficulty level, whereas in Millennium losing was next to impossible.

The object of Deuteros is to mine and manage resources, explore the Solar System and beyond, and rid the galaxy of the evil Methanoids. Winning requires the collecting of 8 parts of a mysterious machine as asked by a mysterious race that sends enigmatic messages to the game-player. Upon winning, the game ends with a mini video clip that shows three picture-slots with icons and pictures of in-game objects changing every 3 seconds accompanied by the main music of the game.

The game was eagerly awaited by Millennium 2.2 fans

I think it was:

Deuteros

Could have been Millenium 2.2 though. The reason why I think it's more Deuteros is that you had time to get up and running before you got attacked. In Millenium 2.2 you just had to colonise the moon to win where as in Deuteros you had several solar systems to get through.

Yes could've been either on the one hand it sounds like millenium 2.2 on the other deuteros , but those i'd say are the ones he is looking for

That doesnt describe Deuteros: you dont start with the moon colony, and the battle screen isnt you shooting them down with weapons: Its your ships vs their ships in a big space battle :D (but also orbital defence platforms if you buy them as well i think) so i dont think its that.

Btw - Deuteros is in my top 10 of all time games. Legend status :D

It could be Outpost because that starts with you developing the moon with buildings etc BUT there is another game that is similar which i cant remember the name of.......argh.. /goes to look for it

it was Millenium! Thankyou so much! Fantastic.. ill go tell my brother!

Outpost is far too graphically advanced to be it :p
