Does anyone remember the waterproof Minolta camera?

Late 70s/early 80s I think.

Always wanted one but never had one but I’d like one now.

Is there any reasonably priced compact camera that can take pics in the water?

What's wrong with a modern phone for stuff like this? Most phones are probably better than a cheap camera anyway? Unless you need it for something dedicated of course.

There are a number of reasons I’d prefer a dedicated device to a cell phone.

By the time I’ve unlocked the screen, navigated to the camera app and fumbled with my fat fingers to set the right options, the subject of my shot has long since gone.

Also, there’s the danger of dropping and breaking the phone. Same holds true for a camera but it doesn’t have my entire life on it

I don't get why people just don't wear goggles and have a really good memory.

Cameras in my underwater? Hard no.

e: "fumbled with my fat fingers to set the right options, the subject of my shot has long since gone" is the opening line of the voiceover to my new horror film, releasing this summer.

You can just literally use your phone if it's IP68 rated, which is most phones today, as long as you don't go too deep (1.5m) - Otherwise get an underwater case for it.

You have to be joking, right?

Slightest bit of moisture and the touchscreen is all over the place and I get that annoying moisture detected error which stops me from being able to charge until it’s 100% dry.

Oh, it’s an iPhone 14.

'Yes I saw it all through my camera lens.'

Onlyu if it's ancient. Modern handsets have a mode for the screen for underwater use or increased sensitivity.

You can just gently blow on the USB port and within moments the warning goes away.

Xiaomi for example literally markets some of their new models as "underwater camera".
