Does anyone use an "ergonomic" mouse, or a "handshake" mouse? Any good?

I've noticed mild wrist ache now that I'm spending hours at my desk at home, and I was wondering about switching to a more ergonomic set-up.

I was wondering what people use and what they rate.

Also, any historic purchasing errors - things that are well-respected that turned out to be rubbish and got discarded.

For reference I'm currently erring towards the Logitech MX Vertical Ergonomic Wireless Mouse...

I got Microsoft ergonomic mice and keyboards when they first came out and a few afterwards, the mice were all crap, the design hurt my hands more than a standard intellimouse. On my daily I've been using an MX500 in my left hand (I'm right handed) for 15 years with no pain, I think it's because it juts out where I grip and guide the mouse with my thumb. The shape adapting to your hand grip seems more important than anything else, I hate those titchy ones that are designed for laptops, a great way to hurt my fingers. I find Logitech designs are usually superior to Microsoft, even if it's a gaming mouse versus an ergonomic one.

The split keyboards are an improvement, but the most effective remedy was just rotating my keyboard at an angle (approx 20 degrees counter clockwise). It doesn't matter so much for typing, but for games I find that's very important, so is making sure the keys don't require the fingers to stretch. For example: WASD for movement with Z, shift or CTRL is far worse than using QRT. When I gamed a lot I'd use OKL; for movement, because there are more normal sized keys to choose from for other actions, not sure if that would suit a right-hander though. Soft-touch keys similar to most laptop keyboards are better for my hands than clackers.

The wrist pain with the mouse stops if I make sure my wrist doesn't fall over the edge of the desk, so the bottom of my palm is always resting on the mouse mat when I'm not typing.
