Hi all,

I'm adding the items to the basket for my new I7 build and wondered if I can save £11 by using some arctic silver I have leftover from a previous build. Its approx 2 years old and was wondering if it goes off with time or does it keep indefinately?

Thanks for any advice

Cheers

Mike

I have NO idea but id say spend the extra £11, better safe than sorry. Besides you're buying a core i7 anyways so you must be swimming in £££ :cool:

I agree with tuppers, if the consistancy is fine then go ahead and use it.

I would imagine that if it had a shelf life it would say so on the tube.

::edit::

Where do you intend on buying your AS5 from anyway, it is only £6.89 from here!!

i found some AS5 from over 3 years ago the other day and the consistency seemed normal. Temps are normal too.

I have a few tubes in my fridge that have been there at least 2 years.

As long as the cap has been fastened since you last used it there should be nothing wrong with it.

I seem to remember that the manufacturers also suggested storing the tube upright (nozzle downwards). So if there was any separation over time it went away from the nozzle and the bit squeezed out was fine.

I've been using the same tube of AS5 since about 2004. My temps seem to be fine after reseating the other day.

Thanks for the replies! I'll dig the tube out and check the consistency. (Although mine is stores in a cupboard not the fridge)

I think I dropped a clanger with the product ie had looked at Arctic Silver Thermal Epoxy (7g) when I should have looked at Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) - Doh

Anyway thanks again for taking the time to reply

Deks
