Digital distribution is the way to go.

I saw the light a while back. Sure, it costs more but the benefits to me outweigh the cost.

That purely depends on the person, what you mean to say is "in my opinion the benefits outweigh the costs", personally, i'd rather have a hard copy!

I'd buy stuff on steam if it was cheaper than retail. I don't see how they can justify giving you less stuff for more money. Only get Steam stuff when it's on offer these days.

I purchase from STEAM as I like the ability to download whenever I like, no bother with disc checks, automated updates etc and and no bother with "hunting the No-CD exe" when an update is released.

I realise I must pay extra for Valve to deliver that service. I dont understand why people expect Valve to deliver that service for free?

You buy your hard copy at a lesser price although once the retailer have sent it to you, they have no more costs involved with you as a customer.

Steam are constantly supporting me as a customer so I for one am more than happy to pay for that service.

Download when you like if you have an uber connection which most people dont.

No bother doing disc checks so long as you have an internet connection so that Steam can work.

Automated updates a few weeks after normal retail copies.

Bargain for twice the price!

You dont need an "Uber" connection. I ran STEAM on a 10Mb connection with no problems.

STEAM Offline mode works fine for me but my PC is allways online anyway as are most peoples in the 21st century unless your on Dial up?

Updates for most games are pretty much simultaneous with retail bar a few publishers who suck anyway. Any reputable publisher releases at the same time, maybe a day later. Hardly a "few weeks".

Twice the price? I dont think so.

10mb is still well above the national average and the whole concept of digital downloads was originally sold to the masses as being a cheaper medium for distribution of software. For someone to be happy to pay more for a product that they don't hold a tangible copy of that could then be sold on quite legally when no longer wanted, is absolutely insane.

Indeed I agree each to their own but to actually buy into a scheme that should be cheaper by saying you are happy to pay more....you need your head reading.

Meh.. Blame BT, although I get your point.

I just think people need to stop thinking that ALL digital downloads SHOULD be cheaper?

When did anyone say they would be?

STEAM have overheads because of the extras they provide, I personally enjoy the benefits of those extras but dont mind paying for them.

Personally, I much prefer STEAM over any other digital distribution service as it offers something extra over sites like D2D, Gamersgate etc where you have to download a 10GB installer then install it then update it yourself for the same price.

That is fair enough.

Different folkes/different strokes and all that.

Obviously, most of the newer games on a 1Mb connection would require a VERY patient person indeed :)

Here is hoping this new UK broadband initiative improves things for you :)

Pretty sure one of the admins/devs in the Eidos forum stated the game only uses a disc based check, so yeah DVD in the drive. At least it isnt limited install DRM crap.
