...on freshly written marker pen text make it dry quicker? Let's say permanent marker on metal.

I notice people do this but I always think it's the time taken and not the blowing that makes it dry, like how people used to shake Polaroid pictures which in reality has no effect on drying time. So am I right or wrong?

The air flow helps liberate the atoms from the surface or something. It's the same reason clothes dry quicker on a windy day.

maybe this is the reason public toilets have those machines that BLOW your hands dry?

facepalm.jpg for you sir
btw ever heard of evaporation? condensation is the opposite

hopefully you are still at school and have yet to learn

And you shake polaroids to disperse the chemicals inside the paper quicker to decrease development time, and in some instances it improves the colour quality and sharpness of images I believe (photographers correct me if I'm wrong)

The answer is easy but try this yourself. Draw 2 lines on paper and only blow on one for a few seconds and find out which one (if any) dries the fastest.

Never hung washing out in Scotland then have you?

The main effect of airflow on evaporation would be:

"If fresh air is moving over the substance all the time, then the concentration of the substance in the air is less likely to go up with time, thus encouraging faster evaporation. This is the result of the boundary layer at the evaporation surface decreasing with flow velocity, decreasing the diffusion distance in the stagnant layer."

Isn't that the heat/UV from the sun given people tend to use washing lines when it's sunny rather than windy?

Because the air is hot.

heat only speeds the evaporation process cold air will do the job almost as good.

which is why water evaporates and the streets become dry quicker when it's really windy

This thread reminds me of the time I had to explain how a fan cooled you down to a 21 y/o... She didn't get it.
