Does changing the cooling on a BFG 8800 void the warranty?

Hey,

I'm wanting to buy a 8800 GTS 320MB, but replace the stock cooling with a "Thermalright HR-03 Plus" does anyone know if this voids their "lifetime warranty"?

On the BFG site it says...

BFG Tech Graphics Card Lifetime Warranty
BFG Tech 1 Year Accessory Warranty (Graphics Card Fan)

does that mean you can replace the cooler and not void the warranty for the actual card (...so long as you don't break it while fitting it, then it obviously is void/your fault)

Thanks!

your modifying the card so in turn invalidating the warranty, think about it, if they can get away without having to fix your card they will do it, the card needs to remain in the same condition it was sold in

try not to damage the screws or anything when taking it off, if it dies replace the original cooler and hope they don't notice

I phoned them up quickly (I wasn't able to get through before, but this time I did) and they did indeed confirm that if you replace it that'll void the warranty.

XFX said you can replace the cooler and even overclock it (as long as you know what you're doing) without voiding the warranty so I'll probably go with their version instead.

Thanks the the replies!

Must have got it mixed up with another Brand. :)
^ ^ ^ Yup, EVGA also let you fit aftermarket cooling to cards without voiding their warranty.

Although, how would they ever know anyway!!! ;) :) v v v

I think EVGA have stopped letting people do that now, which bugs me.

I'm not 100% sure though, it used to be in their warranty info on the site but now it's not.

Just checking on EVGA now, they do say

This lifetime warranty is valid for the life of the retail product, so long as the original purchaser owns the product, based upon the following conditions:

There is no physical damage to the PCB, GPU/chipset, or components that are caused by: Damage due to improper installation, damage during modification of any kind, damage during any type of Aftermarket cooling installation, and water damage of any kind.

Although they don't mention that you can anymore, I dont think they would mind as long as you knew what you were doing and didn't damage anything, similar thing would apply to the BFG card as long as you take care and keep the stock cooler should be fine. :)

I still see it in the EVGA Faq: (http://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=57720)

Question / Issue
Does water-cooling or installing a third party cooling solution on my video card void the warranty?

Answer / Solution
Installing third party cooling solutions does not void warranty on our products. Just be sure to keep the original cooling solution as it will have to be on the card if it is ever sent in for RMA. Any physical damage such as burn marks or damaged PCB will void ALL warranties.

Now I have a choice between EVGA and XFX, Thanks :)

It's a great warranty option imo, really does single out the good partners from the others.
Rock on! :)

My EVGA GX2's kitted out with a swiftech spacer and two zalman fatalities! Good to know the warranties intact... i was getting worried!

What a stupid warranty...lifetime on the card, but only 1 year on the fan..
But your not allowed to replace the fan if it packs up after 12 months :p

Think how much it would cost to have a new fan fitted by BFG if you had to ship the card back to BFG,plus the price for a new FAN and maybe plus the return shipping....
