Does cloning screens use more power?

Ive currently got a 1920x1080 TV beside my 1980x1200 monitor.

Im considering swapping out the monitor for a 1920x1080 one so that i can clone my screens to save me mucking about when im changing between tv and monitor, but if i use the clone function, will it take a hit on performance or is it simply a case of a signal going to both monitors?

The only difference is when you attach a second monitor/tv your card will never drop to 2D idle speeds. This mean your computer pointlessly burns an extra 20w of power at idle.

This irritates me as theres no reason for it. If you force the clocks down using 3rd party utils both screens work just fine.
