anyone used copilot / android phone as a sat nav in the US ? with data link disabled?

does it work with this disabled (dont want to pay $100 odd dollars for the hire sat nav or for rip off roaming data costs)

Why don't you go and download all the maps you'll need from google maps and then you can use the google navigation instead?

Because you can't do that, correct me I'm wrong but Google Navigation only allows you to cache a limited area. Well it does on my phone anyway.

In theory you can download apps that let you exceed the cache limit. It's a bit of a pain though and frankly a bit limiting if you do anything other than what you planned to (unless you had the patience to basically cache the states!)

Re: Copilot, as far as I am aware, the whole point is that it's an offline application. Sure it uses data/wifi to perform updates/do the social integration stuff but if you disable data then the maps are stored on your phone and the GPS doesn't need data to work, so I can't see why not!

Yes I used co-pilot in Florida in March and it worked perfectly with all data switched off. It just uses the mobile phone signal for its gps location.
