Does different RAM conflict?

I have Kingston 3500 (2x512) and am looking to purchase some more, before I shell out though I was wondering if anyone could tell me if different ram conflicts (and how much). I have no idea how to overclock RAM and have left mine unaltered (and don't really want to change it now).

What difference would getting Kingston 4000 or a completely different brand of RAM make? Furthermore is there a conflict if I were to have (2x512) and (2x1000) running in dual channel?

Sorry for *** noobness. Thanks. :)

usually it does conflict. in my nf2 board there were always problem if i ran ram from different brands.

the asrock board i currently have is more forgiving than then nforce2 board i had before.

thats why i bought another 2 gigs of crucial ram for compatability sake. if compatability was not a problem i would have bought the geil kit.

What motherboard do you have? As Mav said NF2 boards are pretty fussy, but the A64 boards are a lot less picky.
