Does DLC lead to piracy?

They don't drive me to piracy but they do make me only buy their product until the entire collection goes on sale so they still lose money on me as a customer. I suppose some people will always look for excuse to pirate so this is perfect for them.

I'll happily buy DLC for a game I love if it represents good value for money. I never looked back after buying all of the Fallout 3 DLC on release. They were worth it.

£11 for a few rehashed maps? Jog on. That's not good value no matter how you spin it, especially when you compare it to TF2 or something.

Regarding piracy and DLC... I don't think DLC has changed piracy one bit. People are either greedy enough to pirate in the first place, or have enough self control not to.

I'm not saying its good value at all but it is better than the release price. I like many others prefer the community to be able to make its own map packs and release them for free, I was just pointing out that buying DLC on release is buying at a premium and a little patience will deliver the same content for less.

I wasn't saying "quick, you must buy this", I was saying if you were interested but the price put you off, now may be the time. I realise that MW2 gained a huge amount of hate for its new no dedicated server policy (again I don't like that either) and that hates spread to its DLC but there are a lot of players who love the game and to those gamers the half price option is nice, not as nice as the price it should be.

With the exception of ME2's quite superb Lair of the Shadow Broker, almost all of the DLC I've purchased has been unremarkable and adds very little (if anything) to the game, including the afore mentioned Mass Effect.

Releasing DLC rather than making the original game actually work as advertised, like say Empire Total War is much more of an annoyance for me though, and I hope people start to get wise to this and turn away from certain titles/developers. For instance CA won't be getting a full price purchase from me with Shogun 2, or maybe nothing at all. I certainly won't be touching any of the stuff that will presumably come out for CIV 5 either, and I'll await a proper expansion. There's almost a sense of principle about that as this game reeks of potential DLC 'additions'.

If most DLC was value for money a lot of people would purchase them rather then download them or whatever..fact is most DLC's offer very little which makes the consumer want to download it to ...

a) save £££
b) not feel ripped off by spending £10-£20 to only get some extra clothes/small changes

This is for most DLC's not all of them.
