Hi, I have a Dell G5 5500 which i bought new from Dell, I have had it for about a year, but only just realised it has 2 different makes of RAM in it.

This only come about because i thought i would see what crucial show me as my upgrade options if i wanted and from their scan showed:

Slot 1: Hynix 8GB DDR4 PC4-25600 3200MHz
Slot 2: Micron 1x 8GB DDR4-3200

I do find that a little odd that Dell have done that, but does it make any difference or is it always good practice to use 2 of the same?

I was only running the scan to see if there was any faster Ram, mine both show as CL 22, crucial do show having a Ballistix model that are CL16, does anyone think this would make much difference for day to day use, or not really worth it?

Regards

James

The mixed memory is unexpected, but not a major issue.

You're really, really, unlikely to notice any difference replacing what you have in anything except benchmarks. Spend your money on something more interesting (or energy bills).

I wouldn't recommend doing that upgrade to ballistix even if it did make a noticeable difference, because oem systems may not support xmp, manually changing frequency or increasing the voltage beyond 1.2v, so if you buy gaming memory you could end up with worse speed than what you have now.
