Does it Matter which RAM Sockets I Use?

Hi,

I'm putting together my PC.

It is using a Gigabyte 790FXT-UD5P MoBo and two sticks of 2GB RAM.

The RAM can go in sockets 1&2 or sockets 3&4.

The fan on my heatsink overhangs sockets 1&2 and whilst my RAM will still fit okay I won't be able to get it out once the HSF is in place.

Sockets 3&4 are clear and accessible.

So it would make sense to fit in sockets 3&4 but I thought I'd check whether there are any benefits to using 1&2?

Cheers,

Nigel

nah aslong as u use atleast 2 of the slots that the manual states need to be for dual channel to work then it really dos'nt matter which of the set of 2 u use.

You need to check the manual as some boards wont boot unless certain slots are occupied first, my Gigabyte x58 wont boot unless the white slots are occupied.

Edit: Just checked the manual, you can install the memory in slots 1 & 2 or 3 & 4, but it does recommend channels 1 & 2 if only using 2 modules.

Many thanks - just re-read the manual and spotted that small note.

Cheers,

Nigel
