Does 'JumboFrames' upgrade/enhance the overall speed of a Gigabit network?

[Guys,

I think I'm in the market of replacing a Gigabit Switch (it's a Netgear one that seems to get confused and keep switching to 100mbps over the full Gigabit speeds I desire).

I was wondering...does Jumbo Frames enhance the overall speed of file transfers on a Gigabit network? And if so, do all the devices need to be equipped with the technology - such as Switches for example?

Thanks in advance for a reply.]

Sometimes you can force the negotiation speed in Device Manager.

What transfer speeds do you see at the moment?

Jumbo speeds can enhance file transfers and the sending and receiving device, as well as the switch in the middle, need to understand them.

Its just the MTU size being changed to 9000 or whatever it is, so providing they support them definitely use them to speed things up.

Any advice on a decent 5-port Gigabit Switch that has JF then lads?

Ideally, I'd want it to be the colour black as well (to match everything else in my room!).

Cheers!

Not sure if I've seen any small or cheap switches that support it. You might need to dig around. The one I use is the HP Procurve 1410-8g which is a very good switch. Sorry not in black, although I'm sure you can hide it :p

Does it support jumbo frames? I know TP-Link gets a lot of love on here but they were very cheap and cheerful before.

Having being in involved in a large amount of testing (within the context of a virtualised storage network within a corporate) of jumbo frames we didn't see any increase that would make a measurable difference to anyone’s experience in a home environment.
