Does Kingston Hyper-X really need 2.3V

Looking to buy some Kingston Hyper-X RAM and it says it needs 2.3V and my ASUS P5QL Pro mb says the max voltage that can be set for Memory is 2.2V.

Is this true??

Ask yourself this question, why would they lie about the voltages needed for your DDR2 ram. If the latencies are tight (low) and the frequency is high then most certainly yes. OCZ Titanium running 4-4-4 need 2.2volts for example.

My motherboard gives me a warning if I set it to 2.3V, but still lets me do it. Used to run it at 2.2V and the system was pretty much stable for gaming/every day use but I got an error after a couple of errors on P95 which might have been caused by the RAM.

I found HyperX very unstable at less than the recommended voltage. Constant crashes to desktop till I upped the voltage.

Hi drumdogg,

I've got two 4GB(2x2GB) sets of Kingston HyperX DDR2-1066 5-5-5-18 . . . both kits state 2.3vDimm on their labels but both run flawlessly @ DDR2-1066 using 1.8vDimm? . . . have done for over a year and on several different motherboards . . . dunno what to say really . . . I guess YMMV! :p

My HyperX is fine, just had to put enough volts through it. Compatability probably varies with different motherboards. Look through your motherboards QVL if you want to be absolutely certain it will all work together.
