This is more a curiosity than anything, and perhaps showing a bit of OCD. But do scratches, manufacturing imperfections, building errors, bumps, stretched/marked wires, loose connections, threaded screws, paint chip etc bother you much when building PCs?

I think every build I do there's always a tiny something slightly "wrong" or a small mistake made that no one would ever notice but the builder. I sometimes show people and they think I'm joking it can be so tiny lol.

Just wondering where everyone draws the line. Do small things matter to you or is it purely the functioning of the device that matters? Sometimes im tempted to rebuy things.. then I realize I'm not rich and a tiny imperfections don't matter.

Theres a good chance im just crazy lol :)

You've named a few different things there. Scratches won't bother me if they're just hazing from age but if it's damage/scratches from carelessness that's annoying.

But loose connections will get fixed and damaged cables too!

Paint chips are a bit unavoidable but again I'd hope it's not from my carelessness generally. Same for threaded screws - these things do not happen to me because I'm careful :) Bugs me if I get something second hand that's been abused like that.

I never buy second hand, but I think those that do buy from me with how careful I can be with things get a good deal.

Little things like scratches etc are so easy to do if a component just touches another, or the door of a chassis touches something else going in or out, especually with black metal coating. Wires as well can be so easy to mark if they touch a side in a difficult case.

Honestly its better to let it all go somewhat but I'm having to teach myself that...slowly

I also feel like I could grade things for a living lol. Like I could get any new component and notice little tiny flaws. It's like my eyes can be drawn to it sometimes.

Not really as far as minimal cosmetic damage is concerned. If it leads to issues with the rig then yes, but I've not really had that as I try to be careful when building a rig, as I get older that does get harder to do, eyesight being the reason as I get more short-sighted.

Depends. I have a case and the side panel is slightly off. It’s shame because it’s so close to being spot on. I suppose my expectations scale with cost.

It depends on what and where.

Pretty much anything hidden from view as long as it's only say minor manufacturing defects and doesn't cause any actual problems I'm not bothered about (I'm not going to send a PSU back because a cable is discoloured, or a case back because there is a burr on a screw hold or a minor scratch behind the motherboard).
Having said that I think I've still got one of my Antec Sonata cases that has a larrge scratch on it's high gloss, piano black door panel :( from memory I propped it up when I was fixing an issue and it slid down against something like a screwdriver.

Not really, I notice but it doesn't bother me unless it's major/would impact function. I've scratched the external parts of my various cases of over the years while vacuuming them and it annoys me for a few minutes then I forget about it.

It does annoy me personally, as stuff is supposed to be quality control checked and a scratch isn't acceptable to me nor is a battered box that then has to be put in a protected delivery box ie the packer KNEW it was damaged before packing it...

It does really annoy me more though if I damage something myself when new, as it's usually done by something I could have prevented lol.

Not at all really, my stuff is covered in scratches. My main PC is housed in 22 year old case case with a missing 5.25" bay cover, a fair few scratches and some slight bent metal in places.

It annoys me a bit where laptops are concerned however, I have this laptop where there was some fancy image on the chassis saying i7 ultrabook bla bla and it's mostly scratched off now, it literally looks like a scratch card or one of those things you scratch to reveal a PIN number.
