At the moment I have a Asus Strix 970GTX. Does it make a difference if you have either a Asus, MSI, Gigabyte card etc or is it like clothing that your going for name?.

Well, they all add their own coolers onto the cards, some are better than others. Some different manufacturers have different pcb layouts on the cards too, but that's only an issue if you want to use a custom water block really, some cards will clock better than others, but when its all said and done, its still the same gpu.

I think so, I've bought Gigabyte products because of their UK based customer service.
I won't buy Palit again after a poor gtx 460 experience. Instead I favour MSI as their products haven't (yet) let me down.

Go for the best trade off between longest warranty / closest RMA centre.

10 year warranty is no good if you have to faff about sending it to China just like a 1 year warranty is no good, even if they have a UK RMA centre.

As someone who's 15days into a GPU RMA, i'll now say the warranty process will make up a big part of my choice of make next time I upgrade.

I've been pretty lucky with cards in the past, but it just takes a problem to realise how much a pain it is to RMA something back to south east Asia.

Probably wont go with MSI again myself. I had no problems getting a replacement, and it was all dealt via OcUK's team which was excellent, but it simply took too long. I was without a replacement for four weeks.

All about the warranty why EVGA are so popular with most people.

+1,

I've only owned one EVGA card and that was a 780 Classified who's build quality was great, Based on that and what I've read from end users who have had to send cards in on warranty when I go Nvidia again it will be with EVGA.

I am currently with with out a card, as my Gigabyte 7990 broke about 6 weeks ago. After waiting 28 days for the RMA process and still no word from Gigabyte, Overclockers gave me a partial refund for the card and their customer services was excellent.

So I would also say, who you buy your card from also matters, now I'm waiting for all the new cards to come out from Nvidia and AMD :)
