A friend of mine says memory speed doesn't really make much difference.

The reason I ask is that my memory is pretty slow, 1333Mhz and am considering upgrading soon.

Is it worth it?

No the memory speed doesnt matter that much and it isnt worth it in my opinion.

Better to get cheap memory and a decent ssd(ssds are definitely worth it).

i'd always take quantity over quality. the stupidest i ever did was sell some perfectly good value ram to buy some TCCD back in the day. sure the tighter timings scored me a few milliseconds better in super pi and that was about it. :p

having said that i was reading something about the AMD apu graphics things going much better with faster ram. depends on platform i guess but i don't think intel needs it right now.

have you tried to overclock or tighten the timings? Get memtest on a pendrive and have a crack.

Usually the difference is memory bandwidth and whether thats important to you, but I would say that 1,333mhz to higher spec'ed ram would not be readily noticable, unless you're working on huge images in photoshop and applying loads of filters.

Not tried anything like that with memory. Wouldn't know where to start. Time to do some research. :)

Next time the Samsung Green comes on sale buy some! Plug in and set it to 2133MHz 9-10-10-21-1T v1.47 and away you go, for about £37 quid (with free del).

Same, this will be my next purchase. Not that impressed with the corsair vengeance. Even at it's current price it's much better value.

Unfortunately dominators would be too tall as im using a k2 mount doom cooler. No problems in that respect with the samsungs. I was always an avid user of ocz reaper kits, shame that ocz dropped out of the ram market as the reapers were excellent.

It makes little real world difference but if your want expensive memory your best running it at higher speeds rather than going for lowest latency.

after testing different timings and speeds even with benchmarking the difference between 1600 and 2400 was just a few numbers so `1600 is the best bang for your buck until the higher speeds drop in price
