I have had a dent in my bonnet for sometime now, is it best to get these removed asap ?

I've been told that because I have left it so long I may be looking at getting a new bonnet as dent removal will not be as effective now

Is that true or a load of tosh :D

Depends entirely on the severity of the impact and whether or not the metal is creased. It doesnt have a memory, but it has a point of elasticity, which once past will be subject to metal fatigue and will be damaged beyond repair. Pics?
A dent will rarely get worse over time, but if the paint has been chipped it could have begun to flake, exposing the metal, with corrosion possibly setting in, which could be the cause for a new bonnet.

Load of tosh. Pretty much any dent can be pulled out, no such thing as 'memory' however the metal can stretch. Stretched metal is usually made evident by the 'oil canning' effect, where you can push it in and bend it really easily, this can be remedied by heat shrinking though. On a run of the mill car though it will be pulled out, skimmed over with filler and repainted, if that is impossible or cost ineffective then the bonnet will be replaced.

You can produce metal that has a shape memory which, when deformed you can apply heat to and it will return to its original state. However, this will not apply to your bonnet really.

Just for information its a black renault clio 182. the dent is right on the nose of the car about the width of a tennis ball......no real paint damage. I'll try and get some pics :)
