Does Microserver Gen 8 support Self-Encrypting Harddisk?

Hope you are doing well and healthy in covid climate.

I believe this question is about motherboard. Does HP Proliant Microserver Gen 8 motherboard support Self-Encrypting Hard Drive?

I am looking to install this Western Digital Ultrastar DC HC550 16TB SATA Self-Encrypting Hard Drive

Question is, does Microserver Gen 8 support Self-Encrypting Harddisk?

My understanding is it's a drive based option, the controller is irrelevant - obviously it needs to support the drive type/size/format though.

I thought the MB's BIOS must have a feature to allow me to key in the HDD password??

Its drive firmware based, change the key and the data is garbage, nothing to do with the BIOS - if it were and a board died/CMOS battery failed, you'd be SoL. It's the same in SSD's, just most people aren't interested.
