Does my 3Dmark06 score look as it should?

It's been a while since i've upgraded my machine so not clued up as I used to be, my new build conisists of the following :

GFX Nvidia geforce xfx 7950 GT X 2 (Sli'd)
CPU Intel core duo 6600 @ 2.4Ghz
MEM 2 gig of value corshair DDR2
M/B ASUS P5N32-SLI SE DELUX

Using the latest Nvidia drivers with windows xp and none of the hardware has been overclocked...yet!

My 3DMARK06 score using the free unregistered version has been marked at

5406

Does this score sound about right for a sli'd rig ?

Last of all using the same rig what score roughly would I achieve replacing the 2 7950GT cards with 2 x 8800GTX?

I thought as much, really don't know whats wrong though, I might start by testing each card individually.

The SLI is enabled and the guage is showing the balance load whilst running the tests.


The breakdown of the score is as follows

SM2.score 2198
HDR/SM3 2172
CPU Score 2043

Any help or suggestions are much appriciated
 
I've just run 3dmark06 with one single card and scoring 5402 so it certainly seems to be a problem as running a SLI'd version surely would give me more than 2 additional points.

Trying 2nd card on it's own will post my findings.

The second card in slot 1 scores 5408
so both cards seem to be giving stock individually.

Next I am going to test the power feeds to each card.

Whilst running in SLI i have the video connector plugged in to the 2nd card 2nd port.

i.e. as in bold

[Slot 1] (DVI1) (DVI2)
[Slot 2] (DVI1) (DVI2)

It tells me to do this in the manually, The worrying result is that when the pc starts up I see no video until it enters windows opposed to having the video feed in [slot1] either ports I see the video from when the pc starts.

both though show the same sli'd score as one individual card.

I'll now get back to testing the power feeds, any help again much appriciated.

Hmmmm thats odd. When I had SLI 7800GTX I had to plug the VGA cable into the primary card (the top one), the second car acts only as a 'slave'

A few things to try would be:

1) Make sure sli is enabled in the bios/physically on the board
2) Make sure you actualy have 'rendering mode' set to multi gpu in the drivers.
3) Fiddle with some of the other settings.

Thinking about it as you have the cable in the 2nd card the system probably thinks you only actually have one card. I have never tried this so I am unsure of the actual issue. SLI is definately not working though judging by your scores.

Yes I'm certain, using the Hyper 730W type R , feed 1 is powering card 1, feed 2 is powering card 2. All cables are secure and i've tested indivdual power feed.

not tried this yet, I'll take a look now, any clues to exactly where I should be looking in the BIOS? if not i'll try figure it out.

Also if anyone can just please clarify as it does not specifically mention in the manual. Refering to the sli ribbon bridge does it matter which way round it goes. It can only fit 2 ways and I've tried both but exatcly the same result.

It doesn't matter which way the sli bridge goes on.

The SLI on/off would I imagine be under the advanced settings in your bios (I can only remember from when I had a DFI SLI-D).

First thing I would try though is plugging the monitor cable into the top card (as you look at them direct at the back of the case you want the top left DVI port).

If this sorts out your problem then you dont need to try anything else.
 
Thanks everyone so far for your suggestions.

I tried sli'ing it from dvi port 1 but still the same results even after a cold / warm restart.

I went back to the orginal drivers that came with the cd tried again, same result.

I then decided clutching at the straw to remove the bios battery for 30 seconds then reseat it.. and gues what.......

It works! (running with the primary dvi slot on card 1)

now scoring 8733 on the old drivers, may get a bit more on the latest nvidia drivers. About to try.

Wonder how the bios got screwed ... shrug
