does nero software use advantage of dual core?

hey guys, a few hours i was encoding a video and burning it onto my dvd.
While i was doing that, i decided to watch a few programs on my computer, but i realised that my cpu was struggling while i trying to open wintv.
I had assumed that my cpu could handle doing a dvd burning process while doing something else.

I then assumed that maybe nero takes advantage of dual core processors so i opened up the taskmanager and found out that both cores were running in full load during the encoding/burning process.

is it normal for a dual core to struggle during a encoding/burning process while running another program, or does nero simply take advantage of both cores?

Yeah I'm pretty sure Nero is multithreaded.

Anyway if you want to do something else while encoding just set the priority of the program you want to use (wintv or whatever) above that of Nero. Nero will slow down a bit but at least you can have a more responsive puter while encoding.

Time to upgrade to quad core LOL :D

I believe Nero would still use all 4 cores 100% so that wouldn't make a difference. Like I said before...I think it's a priority issue.

But then the limiting factor might be another part of the system. Also I think sometimes apps are adapted for dual cores but not quad.
