Does new quad = windows reinstall?

I'm sure I read that snapshot had a way round this (something about setting drivers to standard windows ones prior to install, and doing something with task manager...

if not i've got the disks it just hassle as they don't have sp2 inc :o

If you're going from dual to quad you'll be fine without a reinstall, because Windows will already have the necessary drivers installed for a multi-core CPU. It's if you're going from single to dual/quad that it's a bit trickier.

As the others have said, it's no problem. I changed the E6600 in PC no 2 to a Q6600 and I may have had to reset the BIOS but that was all. Even single core to dual or quad should be the same, not like the PITA it used to be under NT.

I had no issues when I moved from dual to quad but for some reason, when I swapped a B3 Q6600 for a G0, Windows (OEM) wanted me to re-activate and I had to call Microsoft

There was no problem - the guy never even asked if I'd made any changes to the hardware, he just gave me the code. Still a pita though

Thanks guys - now if I had stayed at home instead of joining my wife and son at the clinic (just a weight in, nothing serious) I've been OCing my quad now. But I'll have to wait 24 more hours now :(

Typical leave the house for 20mins and you get two deliveries
Hey ho there's always tomorrow.
