Mooching... in your house
i was playing portal for the first time last night (nearly done got to level 16) and as great a game as it is, is seemed to give me a right old headache... computer games have never had this effect on me in fact i very rarely get headaches full stop, but this one even made me feel a bit sick too

i dont get travel sick, sea sick or anything like that either...

proppa crazy if a game can do that! if HL2 is the same i think i'll give it a miss, just bought the orange box as i'd never done any of it before...

Some gamers are starting to believe that the POV (Point Of View), which is the field of vision displayed on the screen, is the culprit. CS:Source's POV is set at 90, whilst HL2 runs at 75. Humans have a field of view of approx. 180 (degrees). This means that running around playing HL2 is like running around with tunnel vision.

I was the same when i played HL2 for a long time, I believe the above could be the problem that's causing this for some people.

It is indeed FOV related for me, i always decrease the default FOV by 10 on PC valve games as it seems to reduce the motion sickness. Sadly you'll just have to live with it on consoles.

I absolutely loved Portal. Completed it twice! - First time was fun, second time was just to see how quick I could do it... Even though I forgot to time myself! :)

so is there no way to sort the FOV on ps3? really wanna do the last few levels but no way if its gonna make me feel like that again... wasn't just a normal headache more of a migraine it was bloody horrible...

is there no fix on consoles?

Nausea* The grammar nazi in me just could not resist. :p

Just to be pedantic its Nazi notice the capital. ;) :p

Yep when I played portal it caused me to feel a bit funny, didn’t get into the game though so didn’t play it for too long.

The apostrophe is not needed and why a full stop it is the same sentence?

Anyway let’s leave it there :p :D

since starting this thread, i've googled it out of interest and it seems a really common problem with HL2, Portal etc... so why did they make the FOV 75˚ if it can cause such problems? are they stupid?

i have played countless fps and i've never felt even slightly funny, then Portal left me feeling like i'd been beaten up! i'm more annoyed than anything cuz i'd have loved to do the last few levels :p
