Does PS4 Pro Supersampling Use the Same Power As Native 4K?

As topic. Just wondered if downsampling to 1080p would use the same resources for the PS4 Pro as it seems like a waste of power for 1080p owners. Sure it looks a bit better but I would prefer native 1080p 60fps.

Also is supersampling classed as 4K bandwidth as in HDMI. I have a 1.3 hdmi that would not support 4K @ 60fps so would supersampling from 4K be classed as 4k or 1080p.

It would use the same resources yeah.

The PS4 Pro would internally render at 4K and output at 1080p still. It should just help to eliminate jaggies really.

Some games have the option of a 'Performance' 1080p mode or a slower 4k mode (not always native 4k). Sometimes they let you toggle it in-game, other times it depends on how your PS4 Pro is set to output.

But what about 4k downsampled? Would it not be classed as 4k rather than 1080p?

No, the PS4 Pro is doing the computing at 4K but then it downscales to 1080p before sending that signal out the HDMI port. It's only a 1080p signal.

I only have a 1080p TV (HDMI 1.4) but I can tell the difference between 4K supersampling and native 1080p on Rise of the Tomb Raider. It's about the only game I can tell the difference on... :p

Okay thanks. Will I need HDMI 1.4 or 2.0 for downsampled 4k to display properly.

The image will be output at 1080p before it leaves the PS4. All the 4K work will be done at the PS4 gpu and then resized down to 1080p. It should still look nicer than 1080p by itself though.

It's a shame more devs don't develop for more bells and whistles at 1080p...

Saying that GT Sport downsampled is stunning.
