Does size matter?

I'm looking at picking up a KS7000 this week, and with only £50 difference between the 49 and 55" models my instinct is to go large. However, I understand there's a preferred distance to sit from TVs based on their size & wondered how important this was in the grand scheme of things?

My living room currently isn't very big, so no doubt I could get away with the 49" (my current set is 40"), but may be moving to a bigger place in the next couple of years.

If this question is useless without distances, I'll whip my tape measure out...

Cheers

I have a 55" Panasonic VT plasma; I wish I'd purchased the 65". Just go to the showroom, see the TV and stand back at your preferred viewing distance.

It depends on the distance.

I bought a 55" for my games room and i was sitting 5-6 feet away and i found I was playing worse as I was too close. I then re-arranged the room so i now sit 8-10 feet away and it's now perfectly playable. Basically it was taking me too long to focus on the radar (in the corner of the screen) then focus back on the centre.

Forget the online graphs they were made up by someone who has no clue. As long as it's not so big you cannot focus on the edges of the screen in a quick manner then focus back on the centre that is when you get issues. And by focus I mean by moving your eyes only there should be no need to move your head.

People use 24-27" PC monitors 2-3 feet away from them for instance. It's all relative to that.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think I'd have to move my head even with a 55, and at any rate, I won't be using it to play games - it'll just be for TV.

For those that know, am I right in thinking there's nothing else worth considering than the KS7000 at this point? I don't want to spend any more (less would be better!).

No matter what size you opt for you will get used to it very quickly and want a bigger screen!

I made that mistake by creating the false chimney to adopt a 55" only but now i wish i had of set it to 65"

Going to have an extension built sometime in the next few years (probably 20 lol) by which time I'm sure you can 3D print your own tv and stick it on the wall with blu tac :D

Thanks for all the replies. Having been to Curry's I'm inclined to agree! Annoyingly, seems I've left it too long - they're out of stock on the 55 and aren't taking any more orders. It's particularly frustrating as Quidco seem to be offering 11% cashback today only!

Depending on how old your current set it, with newer TV's having thinner bezels the increase in viewable screen will be compensated for in some regards.

Consider the actual dimensions of each set rather than/in addition to the screen size.

i'd like to see anyone use a 60" from 6 feet away tbh it would be ridiculous i couldn't game on a 55" at that distance

We sit approx 10ft away from our 65" TV usually.

However, when the girlfriend is busy/out/asleep and I get to actually use it for gaming, I plonk a chair about 4ft away to soak up the 4k glory.
