if a game is playable maxed at 4xAA on a single gtx260!! can a sli gtx 260 play a higher AA maxed or does the frame rate just increase?

if you mean the game shows no AA settings higher than 4x then no it will not give higher AA but if you mean you can only play at 4xAA because you get low fps then it will let you play at a higher AA and give you more fps

with sli, u have twice the memory bandwidth to work with (theoretically) so u can handle higher resolutions and higher AA with better framerates than u would with 1 card

yes the latter was what i was getting at.. so say crysis for instance was playable maxed at 2xAA! using sli would maybe push this to 4xAA?

yes with sli u would be able to up the AA whilst maintaining the framerates u were getting with just 1 card at the lower AA value

basiclaly more mem bandwidth (ie sli) = more AA and higher resolutions with less of a drop on framerates

no problem, i would reconcider actually doing so mate, the difference in AA values dont constitute the cost of another card, since sli doesnt give a 100% increase with 2 cards. but its all personal opinion and how much money u have to burn :P

it actually gives you a 70% increase in power and it makes your system more future proof and give you more oomph in current games
