I have a £12 per month deal with Smarty at the moment and it offers everything I need but I want to make sure I'll be able to tether if my broadband goes down. I've heard conflicting information on this so I thought I'd ask here.
Thank you.I've used mine as a hotspot in the past with no issues
Thank you! I have 125GB of data so I'm unlikely to run out. I pretty much only use mobile data if my home broadband goes down.If memory serves, tethering was more of an issue back in the mid-2010s when 4G was relatively new. EE were fine about it but the other providers got shirty. In the 2020s, I've tethered fine off Three, BT and Plusnet and just be mindful of the mobile data allowance that you get given per month. This can be monitored in system settings of the device that you're tethering off - set a lower value as a warning, then an upper value (the monthly data allowance) as a final warning. i.e. I pay £8/month on Three for unlimited minutes/texts and 25GB data. I set my first warning at 23GB and my final warning at 25GB as then I know I'll incur extra costs if I go above the 25GB.

Thank you. Good to know. These days, all providers must allow unrestricted tethering in the UK.
I too have extensively tethered with Smarty over a number of years with no issue.Doubt you'll have any problems, have used 2.5TB+ from a tethered phone via Smarty unlimited in a single month.
Useful to know, I had no idea about thisThese days, all providers must allow unrestricted tethering in the UK.
