Non-techie writing -- apologies ..

I currently have 2 monitors. I have two 4870 cards with crossfire turned on. SO I guess I have 1 desktop 'stretched' over the 2 monitors.

If in theory I unplugged one of the monitors, just leaving 1 monitor plugged into the whole computer, would the 'remaining' monitor's game frame rates double? Even though currently when both are plugged in and I'm in game the 'second' monitor just sits and shows me 'steam friends'?

In short, does stretching over 2 monitors always kind of half your main monitor in-game framerate even if the second monitor is doing virtually nothing ?

much thanks ...

It might have a small effect but nothing very noticeable. The same amount of time is needed to render each frame either way give or take the tiny amount of time necessary to draw the steam window.

As long as the game is only on one screen, should have little affect at all. All it's gotta do is output some extra pixels, which is no problem. There's no rendering or 3D effects to be done at all, so all should be just fine. If you're unsure, just run some benchmarks with and without the second screen.
