Does the 8600GT need a power cable?

I have one, won't be installing it for a week or so, well there is no 4 pin floppy type socket on it but it does have a small interface part on it at the top ( see picture) if this isn't a power interface what is it?

No, it doesn't. That is the SLI connector

Make sure the power supply is decent, that means generic stuff is a no-no.

the top connector is a sli connector. if its an 8600 it will most likely need a 6 pin connector from your power supply.

a good 400 watt psu should be fine. some 350's may also get away with it, depends on the 12V rail of the psu.

The 8600GT dosen't need a power connector but the 8600GTS needs a six pin power connector

this is for SLi only - if you see the 6-pin box box on the other side of the card then use for PSU cable but without it then no need cable from PSU -- my 2 of 9600GT XXX has 6-pins connector so I already plugged 2 cable from PSU to each card and used SLi bridge.
