Does the cable you use affect fast charging?

So I lost my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge charger recently and bought a USB-C to micro-USB cable so that I could fast charge using my Macbook Pro charger, but I can only get a normal charge out of it.

I know the Apple charger is capable of powering a fast charge, so I'm thinking it could be the cable. Is that possible, or is it not fast charging because I'm not using the official Samsung charger?

It's just a standard 2m cable made by Lindy.

There's many different fast charging standards out there. Your phone uses Qualcomms quick charge 2.0 whereas your Macbook uses power delivery fast charge

The fast charge tech of the phone and charger need to be compatible, so my QC3 USB charger will charge any QC3 phone, regardless of the cable used.

It’s a shame some manufactures use the priorietary Qualcomm solution instead of the industry standard power delivery.

Yeah there's for too many proprietary standards out there. OnePlus and Huawei have their own too.

For me oneplus have the best as it's super fast and the heat stays in the power brick rather than the phone.

Very true. But it seems these OEM's have been very slow to take up what is now the universal quick charge standard across a range of electrical devices.
