As above.

I am planning on buying a PS3 in preparation for MGS4 and need to know weather or not I will have to buy a separate component cable as I don't know weather it comes with one in the box.

Cheers.

Won't the cheaper ones have bad picture quality? Thats the feeling I am getting after reading user reviews of the cheaper ones on competitor's websites.

I tend to lean towards official cables if it's an analogue signal like component, if you decide to opt for HDMI just get one for a fiver.

Ok, I will buy the official one. I can't find a retailer that has any in stock at the minute, though.

I can't get HDMI as my TV doesn't have a HDMI port.

Does it not come with an HDMI cable then? What cable is actually included?

Composite with scart adaptor IIRC. Pretty poor to not even include a cheap HDMI lead, guess they think suckers who don't know any better will buy their official one.

Indeed,

"Yeah our console has a HDMI port as standard, we are awesome!"

"You gotta go buy a cable seperately to actually use it though"

If you can still find the, official PS2 component cables will be cheaper than official ps3 component cables (Both systems use the same multi A/V out port for analogue video).

Yes, its rather cheap of Sony to not include any HD cables at all. A HDMI lead would have been nice, still you don't get any, so you have to buy one...

When it comes to HDMI, a simple £5 cable is good enough, its only a digital signal, it either gets there or it doesn't... simple.

Component, hmmm.... Don't go overboard, but don't get a really cheap and nasty cable either... £15 perhaps?
