Hi

Buddy of mine wants to do the following at work.

Laptop has music on it and he has a stereo music player system.

he wants the music from the laptop to magically be sent to the stereo so you can hear it but with no wires. he has heard of wireless radio transmitters. I have no idea about them

No router at work.

Whats best options?

so laptop in one room. stereo in another. music to be sent from it

ps i hate sodding laptop keyboards

Google "Bluewalker Wireless HiFi Link BW-HF02"

It's a wireless audio link. I don't know what it's like and I don't vouch for the quality. There are others I'm sure. This is just the first one I stumbled across in reply. Now you know something exists (correct spelling ;) ) then you or your mate can do your own research. :)

Apple do something that works over Wifi, I can't remember the name of it now but it's supposed to work well and be easy to set up. :)

That'll be the airport express. It works well although requires Itunes to be on the host laptop for playing the music.

It creates its own Wireless network if required which eliminates the need for a router

Airport Express, that's the one, I've been tempted to get one myself as they also work with iPods and iPhones also which would be really handy for me.

I guess getting a bluetooth receiver would be cheaper however, however I don't think it would be good as the airport express as I imagine range would be poorer and also the sound quality wouldn't be as good...

An airport express is exactly what you want.

Things like logitech squeezebox and sonos also do wireless streaming, but they use a router rather than their own network (and have more features and so cost more).

Alternatively can't he just plug an ipod into the stereo?

The sound quality isn't great with the AE to be honest although its connectivety with an Iphone is fantastic which was my intention.

I picked mine up for £35 from over on PFM

If you use the optical output and a decent DAC you should find the sound quality can be improved.

What's PFM? Are they still selling them at £35 as I wouldn't mind one myself. :)

Yeah, i've read that. Although its only for my kitchen and my girlfriend wants it as simple as possible so i've decided its ok as it is :)

Sorry PFM is another forum called Pink Fish Media, i picked mine up from the classifieds over there and i've seen a few others on there to. Worth trying at that price as can always sell on without losing money. Make sure to try and get the newer "N" model though.

Actually there is a piece of software called airfoil which lets you send audio from any program to the airport, and my friend also managed to hijack it with his Linux build.

Thanks, I'll take a look over at Pink Fish Media, £35 does seem pretty reasonable as they are quite a bit more new.

I'm guessing that the N version has better range, are there any other advantages to getting this version at all? Thanks. :)
