Does this filter look only 2900 miles old?

Doesn't look unreasonable for 3k miles. Not sure what you hope to achieve 3000 miles down the line though, not going to prove anything.

Was this a main dealer? 'Full service' amongst independents is a totally meaningless term that is open to interpretation. What does it even mean? Everything? So gearbox oil? Etc

Just had the 125k service on my '08 2.2 Civic and for this service they did all the filters. Not all full (25k) services require this I believe. It is in the schedule in the service book which I don't have to hand.

I have also never had a trip computer reset on any main dealer service. maybe they can maintain a feed to the circuit whilst the battery is disconnected.

Hey all,

Had my car serviced 3000 miles ago, but am concerned that its only had the bare minimum done?

The air filter to me looks absolutely filthy, the battery isn't secured any tighter than when I did the clamp up previously and the average MPG etc has been retained.

3K city miles or motorway/countryside?

Just rang the dealership in question. The service manager wants to see the car first thing Monday morning. Also sent her pictures of said filter and she agreed it looked old - couldn't explain why but said it will all be sorted Monday.

So much for main dealers being the best place for your car! At least my trusted mechanic used to put all your old items (minus oil filter) in the boot for you to see before disposing of them!

Thats very unfair to start saying things like that about the dealer. yes it looks old, but without seeing it in real life i would find it hard to comment on the filter, as i have not seen you daily drive to work or seen where you live in cornwall

The fact it's a main dealer means absolutely nothing in terms of quality/trustworthiness or competence.

Bad service occurs at main dealers and independents alike.

I had a ford dealer charge me for a replacement air filter on a service once, they swore blind they'd replaced it until I asked them what they had done with my £200 induction kit.

I've also had a Volvo dealer charge for 8 spark plugs on a service, 4 x ignition plug, and further down the list it said 4 x something else.. same price as the spark plugs.

You have to keep your eyes wide open with garages until you can find a trustworthy place.

Difficult to say with a 3k old paper air filter though.. worst case they are not expensive to replace anyway, that one doesn't look too bad any way.

I would actually say the opposite.

A full service at a dealers tends to be what is in the maintenance schedule which can sometimes be as basic as oil, some filters and spark plugs.

Whilst a full service at independents, while it can vary a bit, tends to be a catch all of a lot of things.

Replacement of gearbox oil, brake fluid etc. isn't usually included but nor do main dealers.

Look at the VW £300 major service:

Said filter is £18.90, and I'd only ever fit a genuine one.
