does this gfx card need additional power from the PSU?

some brands have them some don't. They usually come with a molex cable adapter.
It supports the pixel shader 3 stuff whereas your 9800Pro only does Pixel Shader 2.

thanks for the reply, I think I'll investigate further. Does anyone know the power draw on these GPU's?

I have a Hewlett-Packard Tower (standard spec as follows):

MSI Motherboard running the ATI Xpress 200 chipset
Lite-On 250w PSU
AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ (newer lower wattage 'brisbane' version)
2 x 1 GB PC2-5300 RAM
1x dvd writer
1x Seagate 250Gb HDD
onboard sound, LAN and Graphics

The addition I have right now is an old PCI-e nVidia Geforce 6200, its running fine but I'm assuming the ATI Radeon 2600Pro is going to draw a lot more power?

I would try it - the 2600 pro uses very little power and even less as you have selected a fanless version

it is a lot better than a 9800 pro

thanks for the advice, there is no harm in trying it on the system right? Like, if the PSU can't handle it no hardware damaged will be caused? Just no boot or something?

Why not read the manual :D
