Does this mean what I think it means? (Work related email)

As you all know, we operate in a highly competitive market place and we need to ensure that, as far as we can, we take this and other pressures into account in determining both the direction we wish to take the Company and what we believe can be achieved.

We aim to continue to build upon our relationship with <major customer's name here> and, with this in mind, over the next few weeks the Board and I will be reviewing our strategy and objectives with a view to ensuring that the way we are structured and operate delivers what is required.

I and your directors will be discussing potential changes with relevant colleagues so that we include as many people’s views as possible before decisions are made.

Whilst I do not wish to pre-judge the outcome of this review I do strongly believe that some changes will flow from it and I look forward to your continuing support as we move the Company forward.

To me this sounds like layoffs are coming...Does anyone think it could mean something different?
 
It does sound like there will be changes but the idea of the email is to cover them in case they have to lay of staff due to the chances. It could be "just a in case email". Google job sites and type up your cv just to be sure thou.
 
sounds like a completly convoluted and retarded way of sayin that people will be laid off but thats pretty much what it sounds like
 
Its sad that companies these days send news like this by email, leaving everyone wondering what it means. If the directors had any balls they would have communicated this via a meeting and allowed people to ask a few clarifying questions. Or just kept their mouths shut until the outcome is known. Doing it this way helps no one.
 
Doesnt read as if they will be laying off, sounds more of a jig about with jobs, people may be required to take on extr tasks etc etc.

They are trying to build a relationship with a customer, probabally changing things about a bit to meet their expectations?
 
Sounds like a re-structuring. Whether that leads to lay-offs is anyones guess.

If it was JUST a re-structuring there wouldn't be a need to send out a pre-emptive email to appease the grapevine rumours.

It will involve lay-offs, but in the guise of "job specification alterations" or roles becoming redundant "it's not you being made redundant, it's your role" type of thing.

Spruce up the CV and pray for voluntary redundancy!

Yeah, I'd agree with you there. If the email actually made any clear sense then there's maybe some value in sending it but it's drenched in so much vagueness that it's pointless. Plus for something as important as the email hints at, face to face meetings (you know, with real people!) are a far better way of doing this.

Emails regarding restructures/job losses are comparable to dumping your other half by text message.

Re-structuring usually does mean redundancies.

Sounds to me like they're going to offshore some of the work, but then I work in an industry where offshoring is commonplace, may not be appropriate for the OP's company.
 
I'd also be prepared for your job to change (not necessarily lay offs).

Continuing support sounds to be that you may be doing IT but you may also be cleaning the toilets if required. Or even made redundant and re-employed on a lower wage, etc.

Sadly it's a massive time of uncertainty just be prepared I guess!

You just need a little translation. Some parts are skipped as they don't translate well from BS to English.

We need to know how many extra jobs you can take on so we can sack some people
