So after much fiddling (I forgot how fiddly inside pc can be) I have built the new PC.

IP35-Pro / Q6600 / Tuniq Tower / 4 Gig Corsair XMS6400 C4 / Samsung 500Gb / OcUk 8800 GTX.

Currently everything is stock (not changed a single thing bar install new drivers).

Got Everest showing.

Core 1: 31c
Core 2: 32c
Core 3: 27c
Core 4: 34c

GPU Ambient: 50c
GPU Diode: 64c

I've run SuperPi once just to get a rough idea of speed (15sec).

What can I do to make sure it's nice and stable, not getting to hot (including GFX) before I even think about o/c this?

Thanks for help :)

download Prime95 and coretemp, run prime95 for 10-15 mins and get some idea of your load temps... then you no what you have to play with...

You should get 3-3.2 GHz on stock voltage, 3.4-3.6 max clock depending on your CPU (how vCore hungry it is) and how well your cooling works

yup once you start clocking make sure you enable round off checking in the advanced menu...

3Ghz should be doable from the off... set your RAM to the correct voltage lower the timmings down... i.e. if its rated at 4-4-4-12 set to 5-5-5-15 or 18

Then wake your frontside bus up to 334mhz (not sure what the abit report they might show rated FSB inwhich case this is 334*4 = 1336mhz... at this point do not worry about chaning any voltages... load up at 3006mhz and run Prime95... keep an eye on the temps

About that correct voltage, mine is set at 1.8V I think (not changed anything in BIOS yet). I have a feeling the RAM should be at 2.1V anyways. How do I check that?

would check on the manufactors website... RAM is particularly sensitive to volts and over running RAM voltage for a period can damage it.. so would go and make sure

Whilst that's running - the corsair website states "tested at latency 4-4-4-12 at 2.1V" and "JEDEC standard 5-5-5-8 values at 800Mhz" so that leaves me none the wiser. Is that 2.1V o/c or just the recommended voltage...hmmm

Set it to 2.1v.

You might also need to up the northbridge (MCH) voltage by a notch or two to strengthen it for 4 sticks of memory.

Welp, I can't say that looking at task manager that Prime is thrashing my cpu's but 20mins or so of Torture / Blend temps are:

C1: 36/37
C2: 37
C3: 37
C4: 43

So that seems ok (although not sure why core4 is always 5 degress higher).

Right,

That thread was handy yantorsen, pointed me to the quad version of prime.

So 15mins of small fft's hitting

c1: 50
c2: 50
c3: 47
c4: 51

So bearing in mind the TIM hasn't really settled in (it's only been 5 hours) that seems reasonable..

That's with all system fans on low (not sure about the Tuniq fan as it's on 3pin header so I guess it's on max). Now I need to set the ram voltage.

That's good to hear, and even upping the ram voltage at stock to 2.1v makes everything feel snappier already.

Tomorrow I might break it and o/c a bit...
