Labour only. 2006 Mini One (R50 shape):

Replace top mounts, wishbone bushes, front discs & pads, belt & tensioner.

£525.

The labour is apparently £60/h. The bill looks like he's billed it as separate jobs, ie. remove wheels for each job, when in reality they only needed removing once.

Does that amount sound reasonable? I'm just trying to gauge prices here, it's only the second time I've had work done on a car in the UK so don't really know what a good deal is or how mechanics bill for work.

It's feeling fresh & fruity now though, I don't even want to know what those old bushes looked like

So you have already had the work done? Does it matter then? :p

£525 i would have asked around a few garages before getting the work done.

Yeah, it's done. I asked one other garage who quoted £700. These things are a PITA to work on, this was a sub-frame off job. It's been niggling me for ages and last night I went over a disguised bump and the front just went CLUNK and that was the final straw. It's been needing doing for ages but I've just been putting it off all the time. I've had the spares in the boot for about 3 months :p

I was impressed with the garage though. Clean as a whistle and the staff did know their stuff. If this is what I can expect to pay for work then I've found my Steve, but if it's pricey then I'll look elsewhere.

Yeah its a subframe off job but that doesn't make it a huge job. I replaced the wishbone bushes, all 4 ball joints and arb bushes in an evening an my r53. If they know what they're doing that in itself isn't too bad.
That said though 525 is actually pretty reasonable IMO.

I know its all done and dusted now, but sometimes its cheaper to replace the entire wishbone then just the bushes.

Putting the wishbone back in is a right faff but not hard.

At least its all done now :)

£60/h, yikes. Do garages in London charge a lot more than everywhere else?

I'd find a Mini specialist (check the Mini forums) and take it to them.
