Does this sound like a PSU problem?

Hey guys,

A couple of weeks back I went to see a mate who had a problem with his PC shutting down soon after booting into Windows – right after the login screen. Sometimes though he can have a whole session on it and its fine?

When I was there it didn't do it, typical, but I did install some temp monitoring software as I suspected that it might have been temperature related – his CPU, an Athlon 2600, was up in the 60's… Anyway I’ve just fitted a better heatsink/fan and used some artic silver but the problems still there ;)

Before I go up into the loft and dig out my emergency PSU, how likely does it sound like this is a power supply issue? Apart from that, what other options do I have?

Thanks in advance!

SW.

my friend had kinda the same problem except it reboots as soon as the blue screen shows up before the login, after ruling out the Drivers I stuck my PSU into his system and and booted fine. His psu was a 550W jeantech which is not very good.

I say give it whirl had the same with my uncles PC today, stuck my PSU in there ran like a dream.

I'm using my reliable old Chieftec psu in there atm - and its fine!

Just doing a bit of stress testing...

The one I pulled out was a generic 250W unit

It shouldn't have been in there anyway :D
